For People with Autism: If You Want to Better Understand Your Own Anxiety and Stress

Everyone encounters situations that evoke anxiety or tension from time to time.
In this group, we explore the underlying causes of these feelings together. By understanding them better, you’ll learn new ways to cope and gain more control over situations you find challenging.

Purpose of the Group
This group aims to provide you with a deeper understanding of how anxiety and tension arise. Factors such as sensory overload, unexpected changes, or clashes between reality and your personal expectations often play a role. Additionally, the fear of not being allowed to be yourself can also contribute to these feelings.

During the sessions, we focus on developing practical skills, such as:
  • Recognizing and identifying your own boundaries.
  • Learning how to express these boundaries.
  • Negotiating and managing tension in interactions with others.
Who is This Group For?
This group is for adults (18–65 years old) with an average to high level of intelligence who have a diagnosis within the autism spectrum. It’s important that you have previously participated in Me and My Autism or have otherwise gained knowledge about your autism.

Participant Experiences
Participants often share the following insights and improvements:
  • Less shame about their own behavior.
  • Less loneliness due to recognition and understanding.
  • Greater understanding of the causes of their anxiety and tension.
  • A broader perspective on their behavior, not only from autism but also from upbringing and personal experiences.
These insights help them gain a more realistic view of themselves and their reactions.
